One thing that keeps confusing me is that they claim ghost files costs several hundreds of thousands of dollars per season. I’ve tried to wrap my head around this ever since the announcement because flying a crew of 6 or so people out for two days and renting out the location COULD NOT be costing that much unless they’re either lying or blowing money on first class flights and expensive food/accommodations and even THEN do I not see them breaking 100k on a single episode. Dear lord hire an accountant I’m half convinced someone’s laundering money
#EDIT i said per ep in the og post but it was actually per season#watcher#AND they hire additional local crew for???? reasons unknown to me#are they buying their whole recording setup again every time they fly??? do they each get seperate rooms???#are they eating fucking caviar every meal like girl WHAT is that money being spent on#hire an accountant please this money is not being managed

SuperM in Fort Worth
I’m dead. They all killed me. My bias list is completely destroyed.
But it was soooo worth it!
The show was about 90 minutes long. Going in, we had no idea what to expect since it was their very first show. The venue (Dickies Arena) is really nice and fairly user friendly - they just don’t label the sections very well. The doors were late opening, and there were only 2 doors open at each entrance since we had to walk through a metal detector. It was so cold out that night - there was a HUGE cheer when the doors finally opened. I’ve never heard so many people scream for joy at a door being opened. Once inside, the merch queues moved really quickly. I thought merch was a bit expensive ($60 for the lightstick, $30 for the beanie hat), but I usually don’t buy things anyway.
I swear we had the best seats in the entire arena that night. We were in the first row of the elevated seating - directly across from where the long runway stage jutted out to the side. We were literally 15 feet from all of them. They used the whole stage setup really well - I think only 2 songs didn’t use the runway stages. The ramp setup for “No Manners” is really good (don’t get me started on Taeyong during that song yet). Mark threw a ball directly at me, but it was knocked out of my hand by the girl next to me. 😢 My friend caught one that Lucas threw to her, though. Because of our seats, there was a lot of eye contact between us and the guys - Mark during “Super Car” and “Talk About”, Lucas and Ten during the first ment, Kai during “With You”, Taeyong during “Dangerous Woman” and “No Manners”, plus some others.
The production of the concert was really, really good. The sound quality was very nice and I didn’t pick up on any first night goofs. The vcr’s, backdrops, and lighting really suited each performance. By now you’re probably aware of the ignorant reporter who stated that they were lip-syncing the whole night. Of course there was a lot of vocal layering recorded in each track to get a fuller sound, but all the main vocals and raps (and all the ad libs, as well as some backing vocals) were done live.
I’ve seen some people complaining that no one did the fanchants and that NCTzens only cheered for the NCT members. Firstly, fanchants aren’t such a huge deal here in the States - we like to sing along and scream and dance. Some people probably don’t even realize there are fanchants (and if they do, they probably don’t know them enough). Secondly, every single member of SuperM was cheered for really, REALLY loudly. During the ments, Taemin got the loudest, longest cheers but everyone else got loud cheers as well - there was no noticeable difference. Same thing during the songs. I didn’t see or hear about any fights between fandoms at the concert. Just the opposite, in fact. Everyone was so supportive of ALL the guys, even if they didn’t know much about all of them. Everyone was really friendly and just happy to be there and get to experience something so amazing.
With the star power this group has, there wasn’t one member that didn’t stand out. Here are my thoughts about each member.
Baekhyun: I didn’t know a lot about him or EXO going into the concert. His voice live is incredible. Plus, he’s super gorgeous in person. I’m used to seeing him all funny and goofy in the EXO stuff I’ve seen, so it shocked me a bit to see him so sexy. He was glowing on that stage. “Betcha” and “UN Village” live were so so so good!
Taemin: He didn’t disappoint at all! He had the first solo stage and performed “Danger” and “Goodbye” - both songs that I really love. I know there were some who were bummed we didn’t get “Move” or “Want”, but I couldn’t care less - I still got to see him live and in person! He seemed to be a bit on the shy side when not performing, which I found adorable. I also want his blue leather jacket.
Kai: Like Baekhyun, I didn’t know a whole lot about Kai before the concert. I knew he was a dancer, but I had no idea how powerful he was. All his moves are so sharp and precise when they need to be and so smooth when it’s called for. He has a really magnetic stage presence. He hurt his finger during “No Manners” but no one had any idea until he left the stage during the next ment. He was so professional about it. He said that he felt bad that he made some mistakes, but no one saw any mistakes - we were too busy enjoying and having fun! He’s such a cutie!
Taeyong: So ... I had seen Taeyong live before, but for some reason, this time felt way different. I really do think he’s growing as a person and gaining a lot of confidence, both professionally and personally so maybe that’s why his performance felt so different this time. He was my SuperM bias and tied with Johnny for my NCT bias going into the show. He’s now my ultimate bias - something I swore I would never have because how can you ever choose just one? His energy level was off the charts that night. He was bouncing and running around and interacting with all the members. “GTA” is so fucking good - both the song and his performance of it. It’s creative and fun but it hits so hard! I was so excited to hear it in full - not just bits from his Vlive sessions. During “Dangerous Woman” he was right in front of me numerous times and his body rolls to that song made my mind go blank. And then there’s “No Manners”. Again, he was right in front of me a few times when he did the “hush” gesture (so fucking sexy). I can’t even with his grinding on the ramp. To be honest, he kind of overwhelmed me and I had a hard time focusing on anything else. 😍
Ten: I was really excited to see Ten live. I think his dancing and the way he expresses himself through dance is impeccable. And he didn’t disappoint either. His performance of “Dream in a Dream” (one of my all-time favortie solo songs) and “New Heroes” was amazing - and right in front of me! Ten seemed like he was the most nervous out of all the members, but he still put on a really good show.
Lucas: Lucas was never one of the NCT members that I really loved. I liked him, but he wasn’t someone I really thought about or paid a lot of attention to. Shame on me. He’s the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. But he’s also super sexy. His solo stage “When That Bass Go Boom” fits him perfectly! It’s cute, sexy, and a bit funny. The vcr for it was hilarious in its randomness (fire hydrants and cactus). He has such a great stage presence - you can tell he loves performing and being on the stage. He was having the time of his life, which made me enjoy myself even more.
Mark: Mark “I’m coming to destroy your bias list” Lee. Like Taeyong, I’d seen him live before, but he was different again. I don’t know if it’s just a different energy with SuperM or if he’s growing as well, but boy - he attacked me at the show. I always forget that he’s an amazing dancer. I won’t forget ever again. He really puts everything into his dance moves and it really showed. In “Talk About”, there were no back-up dancers, no fancy costumes or elaborate stage set-ups - it was just him rapping his ass off. And doing a phenomenal job. He blew me away with his confidence and stage presence.
So at the end of the night, my bias list was totally changed. Here’s what it’s like now.
Ultimate Bias: Taeyong
SuperM: Taeyong, Mark, Kai
NCT: Taeyong, Johnny, Mark, Yuta, Doyoung
If you have the chance to see SuperM live I really, really, really recommend it. You won’t regret it! Seriously, my friend and I thought about flying to Chicago just to see them again! 😂

The Krufe Effle Tournament - Universe 1
Rocking, rocking, endlessly rocking, Tony moved with the stronger man above him in a smooth, graceful parody of a man making love to a woman. On his back, legs spread wide, pierced to the core, Tony was in the position of the woman. Which meant that he had turned out to be the useless fucking faggot his father always knew he would be. The constant scraping of his prostrate was driving him crazy and the sounds above him were frying his brain. He had kept his mouth clenched tight for fear of what might come out of it, something like ‘stop’ or ‘more’ or ‘I love you, what’s your name again?’ or ‘I do say sir, your cock is the perfect size.’ But he was slack-jawed now, awestruck, whimpering. His eyes were clenched tight -- maybe, if he kept them closed, this wouldn’t really be happening, he wouldn’t really be here; his legs spread shamelessly, his hands splayed out over the scattered LPs , his impending orgasm threatening to blow the top of his head off, his lover above him making impossible demands…. “Open your eyes.” “I can’t,” he whispered (whimpered) and he bent his body forward in hopes of rubbing his cock against that other body while simultaneously turning his head as far away from his lover as he could get it, trying to pretend this was all just another Deranged Fantasy a-la-Tony, that he was really just the Poor Little Rich Boy alone and pathetic…very pathetic…but at least safely alone. “Tony, open your eyes.” He did, and when he saw his father, he knew he had died and gone to hell. He screamed and threw his arms over his head.
“Limp wristed fairy, you pathetic pillow biter,” his old man spat, and Tony’s hands pressed over his ears did nothing to block out the hateful voice. “You and your twisted, deviant friends can go play your sissy games but know when you come back home I won’t have a weak queer living under my roof…” Far away……in another room perhaps, or in another reality, he could hear another voice call his name, and he knew hope was near. Peter was here, Peter would save him, and if Peter couldn’t save him well, then he could save Peter and not have to think about this horrible nightmare that was currently and enthusiastically fucking him into the floor.
“Tony…..what? Tony I…..oh shit, oh FUCK Tony……” “Language!” he whispered breathlessly (his mouth and throat too dry to really speak) as he flailed his arms around in the darkness, trying to find Peter. Something was very wrong…Peter sounded like he was in trouble (or feeling REALLY good!) and either way Tony was going to find him and save him.
He could find him. He could save him. And then the weak silly pillowbiter would be gone and the Big Solid Hero would be back again. He tried to turn his head, because all efforts to flail his arms to find Peter weren’t working because he didn’t know which was up which is when he realized, for the first time, that there was no darkness he was only keeping his eyes tightly closed.
Opening them didn’t help.
They clearly were not in his childhood bedroom, but they WERE laying atop of what would appear to be his entire Black Sabbath album collection (he could feel them crunching underneath his back OH he was going to be SO pissed at someone) and he couldn’t get off the broken albums on the floor because a much stronger man was on top of him, but suddenly it didn’t matter because PETER had just fallen on top of him and he couldn’t flail his arms around because he was holding tightly onto Peter.
Tony had rescued him after all. He pulled his sweating, panting (and weeping? were those tears??) boy closer to him and stroked the damp hair. “Peter, oh god Peter,” he was saying, and TRYING NOT to say, because he DID NOT want to admit how terrified, how helpless, he had been just moments before. Tony actually found himself KISSING the boy’s head and trying to rock him back and forth, overwhelmed with the urge to GIGGLE (and losing) because he wasn’t supposed to be kissing Peter, was he?? No, that would be SO unprofessional. But Peter didn’t seem to notice. In fact, Peter seemed to be very upset about something, and was currently clinging to Tony begging forgiveness. “I’m so sorry, oh gosh Tony, oh fuck I tried, I really I tried, Oh god forgive me. I’m so sorry Tony, I’ve just wanted you for so fucking long….” “Hey hey hey…it’s ok…” Tony said (what else could he say?) He pushed the boy’s wet hair out of his eyes, dried the tears from his face (yes the boy had been crying) all while trying to make sense of it all. “Kid, what happened to you? Where are we? You want me?” A look of despair marred Peter’s beautiful face as he pulled his body away (Tony couldn’t help but notice that he was embarrassingly nude but Peter didn’t seem to mind that fact, probably because he was gloriously nude also. Nor did Petey even notice that Tony was sporting a huge erection.) “What’s the last thing you remember?” the boy asked, whispered really. He sounded heartbroken. “We were with Cap on the roof, waiting for the Krufe Effle alien to arrive for the tournament - the One-Man-Gladiator thing,” Tony said, keeping his hands on Peter’s arms, not wanting to let him go. He could keep talking, he could keep being ok, as long as Peter was here. “...where he was going to fight Cap for some alien honor something, in front an audience of the Heads of State, and Strange messaged us to tell us it was all a setup, which we figured. So we put out an all call and Sam and Nat and .....and......”
“And Barnes and Thor and that Starlord dude you hate so much, they were nearby. And you told me not to come because it was too dangerous but I came...”
“Right, right, and I introduced Nat as the Queen of England and Sam as the King of Motown and Thor as Our Local God and you as the Twink Ambassador To Earth...”
“Dammit Tony I’m not a twink.”
“No....no.....you’re the AMBASSADOR to the Twinks. And the alien seemed to buy it...and I had just analyzed the box that the Krufe guy said Cap needed to use as a weapon…. Peter? Why are we both naked?”
“Ohgodforgiveme,” he said, but when he tried to pull away Tony wouldn’t allow it, keeping his arms wrapped around Peter’s body and although Peter was far stronger, he stayed. “That Krufe Effle alien,” he said, ducking his head down to Tony’s chest, trying to hide in Tony’s arms. Tony combed his fingers through the wet hair as Peter tried to explain. ”It was all a setup, just like Strange said. But he sent another message about the weapon that Cap was using… I was TRYING to get his attention....but I couldn’t get anyone to listen.... Strange said to use the POMMEL of the weapon, but Cap just used the blade, he said we couldn’t not let any of the blood…I guess that was the point of having the battle with all the heads of state in one place…and then you called one of the Sentinels and they grabbed it and soared off with it but…” ”Oh god the blood...”
”It went everywhere. I was standing behind you but Cap got a whole facefull and just started screaming and pulling his hair, but you were still in your suit and you started sending the uninfected people to carry the infected people into the showers in hopes it would just wash off but everyone was going in every direction - Barns picked up Nat and carried her into the kitchen and Starlord said he was going to fly Thor somewhere to.....actually I’m not sure.....I’m not sure WHAT they were doing......” “Is Cap all right?” “He got it the worst…you told Sam to take him to your shower and they got in there alright but…well ......I’m not sure what they’re doing but they’re still in there.....” “We came here, I remember!” Tony said, grabbing Peter by the arm, where the alien’s blood had been eating through his suit. Suddenly Peter’s wet hair was making more sense. “The sink in the lab! I used the bucket to douse you! But my suit should have…”
“You took it off. My hands were shaking too much to fill the bucket and I guess you meant to take the gloves off but it all came off and then you were holding me up to pour the water on me…and well…”
“But how did we get here?” Peter looked up and around in despair. “Through your vintage record collection. Sorry.” His sad frown was a centimeter from Tony mouth. and even as Peter tried to explain how the shelf got knocked over and the albums scattered Tony closed the distance and pressed his lips to the boy’s soft skin.
“These are expensive, aren’t they?” Peter was asking, close to tears.
“Not as much as you think, I brag a lot about them because I’m an asshole” Tony was whispering against that soft skin, untilPeter turned his mouth half an inch to meet his mouth in a kiss that made Tony’s bones melt. “You wanted me for so long?” he whispered when a surprised looking Peter came up for air. “That’s what you said, word for word. Is that true?” he asked, but when Peter tried to apologize Tony interrupted him with another kiss. “Oh God Tony yes,” he said, his voice breaking, and Tony sat up and pulled the boy to him, wrapping him up in his arms and swearing he would never let go.
“But I hurt you, I think I ra….I know I hurt you,” Peter was saying. “That mineral oil you said would neutralize it better than the water, well it wasn’t exactly enough and, god I’m sorry…”
“Oh kid you’re going to have to be a lot rougher than that, and a lot bigger, to hurt me,” Tony said, fighting hard not to burst into hysterical giggles. But when Peter looked at him in disbelief, he lost the battle.
“Oh kid,” he said after collapsing onto his back and finding himself wrapped up in <i>Peter’s</i> arms, hiding in the comfort of the boy’s strong embrace, his hair being stroked with gentle fingers. “Oh Petey, I’ve been a limp wristed fairy for a <i>very</i> long time. No…no I’m afraid a number of twisted deviants have made me a little….jaded. You didn’t hurt me kid…” “You…..? But I mean….it was my first time…..I thought I must have done it wrong…wait….
“Wait.”
“How did you <b>not</b> know I wanted you??” Peter said, pulling back a little, looking angry now. “I thought I was being a little obvious.” “I didn’t know because I couldn’t,” Tony said breathlessly. “Ever since you officially stopped being a kid, well, I guess I spent a great deal of effort ....making sure I didn’t know.”
“Why?!?”
“Because I…..because I was pretty sure you wanted me to ...... because had no idea you wanted to fuck me.”
“I didn’t….” Peter said, suddenly looking down and stammering. “I mean I didn’t know that I wanted to....I mean I did know that I wanted to but I didn’t think that….oh god.......and I should have told you “no” but it’s just when you begged me and then you kind of took my pants off and I didn’t know how to tell you....
Tony burst into hysterical giggles again and Peter calmly bent down to stroke his hair, kissing his face and shushing until the man could speak again.
“So, you wanted me, to want you like this?” Peter said, eyes full of wonder. “Because I do. I want the other thing to - actually I think I want a lot of things - but yeah, this to.”
Then he moved forward for another kiss, then they both stopped to look down awkwardly, for just a moment, when the movement brought Tony’s erection against the Peter’s body, which made Peter chuckle. “Sorry,” Tony said, brow creasing, wondering why the kid was laughing at his dick – maybe it was some Millennial joke he didn’t get? "Where did you come from?” Peter was saying gently. “I just thought just took care of you.” “Wait….what?” Tony took Peter’s face in both hands. “Jesus this isn’t fair, what else don’t I remember?” “Can’t tell you,” Peter said with a playful smile, turning toward Tony’s fingers and mouthing them suggestively. “But I promise I took care of him already.” He leaned down and whispered “I have done that before.” “Ah fuck!” Tony moaned, falling back to the wet carpet and covering his eyes with his hand. “You went down on me for the first time and I missed it?” “And I did it well,” Peter bragged. Tony peaked out from between his fingers. “Did you? I think I’m going to need proof.”
“I don’t need proof, I had THE Tony Stark inform me I was *very* good. I think your exact words were “How the fuck did you get so GOOD at this kid?”
Tony was still peaking out from between his fingers. “Maybe I was just reacting to the sexed-up alien blood. My reactions aren’t trustworthy. The data is tainted.” Peter pulled Tony’s hand away from his eyes and, moving his body on top again, kissed each eyelid. “Well then we’ll have to do it again, for scientific purposes,” he whispered playfully.
“But lets go to the bedroom. We’re laying on an overturned shelf of what I thought were priceless LPs and they’re stressing me out.” Peter kissed him again and tried to sit up. Tony sat up with him, trying his best not to break the kiss, trying to kiss and stand and speak all at the same time. “Is this real? Are we really sober? Is Strange going to show up with a cure and make you come to your senses?” “No idea – we should have a lot of sex before then in case he does.”
“No Tony…..no” he said next, pushing Tony away gently as Tony tried to stand up while kissing him at the same time. “No, Tony,” he insisted, using his strength to keep the bigger man in place. “That’s how the record shelf came down.”
Peter’s bare feet crunched harmlessly over the crushed vinyl while he helped a limping Tony, battered and bruised, out of the wreckage, finally picking him up and carrying him the final feet to safety. Then he stopped and held Tony’s face in his hands, his eyes searching. Tony was to weak and euphoric to protest, and endured the examination patiently. “Swear to me I didn’t rape you,” Peter whispered, barely audible. “Swear to me I didn’t hurt you.” “You didn’t rape me kid. And I wish I could answer all your questions Petey, but I don’t remember.” “I wasn’t sure where I was, I wasn’t even sure I was sure if any of it was real, but when I could see straight and when you let me make love to you, for a moment I thought….I thought you screamed. I thought you screamed and tried to hide. Did I hurt you?” Let me make love to you. Were there six more beautiful words in the English Language? Tony closed his eyes and floated in the heaven that was this kid using the words ‘making love to you.’ “Tony?” “Whu…..? Oh, yes…..I mean no. I mean…..I was still hallucinating, and I thought I saw……I didn’t know where I was, and I thought I saw .... something.” “What?” Tony leaned down to kiss the boy he had been harboring impossible secret fantasies about, fantasies that until an hour ago he would never had admitted to anyone in the world. “A monster,” he whispered against soft lips, then pressed into a kiss. “But you made the monster go away.”

Acoustics and Electronics
I’ve said this over and over and over again, but it’s the most essential part of music it cannot be emphasized enough. Music...sound...is a physical being. It is not something that just gets translated magically from someone’s hands or mouth to your ears.
The biggest impact on the development of modern music...from say the late 40′s to today...hasn’t been anything intellectual, theoretical or artistic. It’s been the evolution of amplification technology.
Why does an orchestra have 80+ members? To project that sound from the stage to the farthest reaches of the venue. But what happens when technological advances allow a single musician to project sound waves with mass and force of an entire orchestra? What happens when you can broadcast a recording over radio waves or the internet?
All of the sudden, things contract. And over the past 2/3-century, we’ve seen that contraction come with outrageous velocity. No longer are we reliant on giant groups of musicians to project sound...and no longer are we reliant on teams of sound and recording engineers to maintain and operate the equipment necessary to project sound.
But as a musician, I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to understand the relation between the electric amplification and how it impacts sound waves.
***
TOP AMP (guitar): Fender Deluxe Reverb, 22w (watts), 1 12″ speaker, 8 ohms.
BOTTOM AMP (bass): Aguilar Tone Hammer 500, 500w, 1 12″ speaker, 8 ohms.
Which of these two amplifiers would you think is louder in a real-life setting?
***
Lets try an imagination exercise...
I’m sure most of you have at some point fucked around on a musical instrument. And I’m sure that one of the first things you discovered was that the harder you played, the louder the instrument became.
One of the most fundamental laws in physics is FORCE = MASS X ACCELERATION. Applied to your hands on a bass, if you just brush the string with your fingertip it will sound much quieter than if you really dug in with all the flesh in your fingertip, yanking the string away from the instrument.
Applied to soundwaves, think of them as boats.
What requires more force to move forward in calm water...a tiny kayak or a giant cargo ship? Don’t say the kayak because you have to row because I know you want to so bad. Dicks. Conversely...what ship would you rather be in when waters get choppy?
The answer isn’t really easy because it’s not an apples to apples comparison. You’re not asking a kayak to ship multiple containers across an ocean, just like you’re not asking a cargo ship to go white water rafting. Like the physical world we live in, instruments are designed to fit a specific purpose dictated by the job they’re required to do...
***
Which brings us to our real-life application acoustics...
In earlier posts that touched on acoustics, I mentioned how different types of sound waves react differently when interacting with other sound waves. It’s the reason why four trumpets can be heard as well as 18 violins. Horn sound waves are like bulldozers, violins are like serrated knives. It would take you a lot more effort to cut down a tree with a serrated knife than a bulldozer.
When looking at the guitar and bass though, the sound waves are similar enough that we can focus more on the physical aspect of amplification. I.e. the force needed to project those sound waves...
Lets suppose that a guitar and bass’ sound waves are sustained for the exact same amount of time. Now let me ask you an insultingly simple question...which instrument is bigger?
The bass, right? Yes. The bass. And as we know from our study of physics, as the mass of something grows, it’s frequency decreases...you will never find a cargo ship that can accelerate as quickly as a cigarette boat. It’s not physically possible.
Even when a guitar and bass play the same notes in the same register that overlaps between the two instruments, the frequencies of those notes on the bass will be lower because of increased mass of the instrument itself. Frequency is determined by the distance between sound waves’ peaks and valleys, not by the speed in which those sound waves oscillate. If this were the case, that hypothetical note you played really hard above would be a different pitch entirely.
***
Back to the question above about which amplifier is louder in a real-life setting...and gets us into the discussion about electronics.
When played at their optimal volumes, the two amplifiers will be pretty much spot on. You could quibble and get into the science at a granular level, but in terms of practical application of these amplifiers, they’re close enough for government work.
We have an audience. The bass and guitar needs to be equalized in terms of volume. So then how could an amp that delivers 22w of power be the same as one with 500w?
The acoustic answer is that guitar’s sound waves have less mass but more acceleration. The bass has more mass and its sound waves need more acceleration in order to keep up with the guitar. Simplified, those watts are accelerating the vibrations picked up by the guitar’s/bass’ magnetic pickups.
Now lets get even more confusing...
***
*DISCLAIMER: I am not an electrician, have only a very basic, practical understanding of this shit as to how it applies to actual playing...so if I’m wrong on some stuff, feel free to correct.
Both amps had an impedance of 8 ohms. Ohms are a measure of resistance to an electric current...meaning if your amplifier (home stereo, guitar/bass, PA, whatever) is sending out a signal to a single 8 ohm speaker, it will encounter 8 ohms of resistance.
In real-world terms, what this means is that the wattage rating on those amplifiers with 8 ohm speakers is effectively cut in half. It would be about a 15w rating for the Fender and a 300w rating for the Aguilar.
The more speakers you add, the more resistance you should experience...but it’s not that simple. Say we add another 12″ speaker to either amp...if we wire it in series (amp > speaker 1 > speaker 2), the resistance is doubled because that single current gets 8 ohm of impedance from the first speaker, and then 8 more ohm from the second.
But if we wire in parallel, where the amplifier sends a signal to each speaker individually, you can use the full output of the amplifier (assuming it’s rated at 4 ohm max).
Why is this important? For one extremely simple reason...
Say you send 4 ohm of signal to an 8 ohm speaker using that bass amp rated at 500w. Your single 12″ speaker might have a max load of 400w...at 8 ohms it’s only getting about 300w, definitely safe for the speaker. But what happens if you send all 500 of those roided up at 4 ohm watts to an 8 ohm speaker...
It’s too much current for the speaker to handle. It might not happen immediately (though your shitty sound would certainly be noticeable), but at some point in the very near future (i.e. that same day), your speaker will blow. This might come as a surprise to some of you, but it’s really hard to project sound waves when your speaker is smoking.
***
This is getting really long so I’ll try to finish it up quickly...
That picture at the top of the page? The wall of Marshall amps? Very useful in the days of antiquated PA systems and sound engineers figuring shit out on the fly. In today’s world? Vanity.
I know that he’s not a favorite of many here in the comments, but look at Trey Anastasio’s setup. Ignoring personal preferences, Phish routinely plays in front of 25,000+ people, in venues ranging from outdoor festivals to giant indoor arenas to historic clubs...and he doesn’t need anything more than a single 2x12 speaker combo. For awhile, he only had two of those 1x12 Fender Deluxe Reverb amps...which was beyond adequate for a place the size of Madison Square Garden.
Contrast that with Yngwie Malmsteen’s wall of Marshalls playing a 5,000 seat theater.
You needed amplification like that back in the day to project sound in massive stadium or arena concerts/festivals. But in today’s era of mega efficient PA systems and automated sound engineering software, they’re pointless. Today’s PA systems will project equalized sound with far greater fidelity, consistency and portability than any rig a musician could haul.
I go “direct in” on every single gig we play and use my tiny amp as a stage monitor so the band can hear me. We use the Bose Stick PA for every gig that doesn’t have a PA system, and we did an outdoor show for 500+ people with power to spare. This whole PA system takes 3 minutes to tear down and weighs probably 40 lbs total.
More importantly it takes all the guesswork out of having to get bass amps. Given the venues and band formats we play in, I’d need probably 3 different speaker configurations to get the same consistency that simply going directly into the Bose Stick gives me every single time.
It saves musicians money (from having to buy equipment), time (from having to set up equipment) and headaches (from having to think about equipment). Looking at those Marshall stacks again, do you realize how expensive that would be to transport, set up and, shit, BUY? You’d have to hire multiple people who’s job it was simply to schlep that shit around.
And why? Not for any sound benefit. Not for anything functional or to account for the basic laws of physics. Simply for vanity.
***
I think my point ultimately was “know your shit” but I dunno. I just find this shit fascinating.

Getting Started with Radios in Your Kit
At some point in our unending quest for new, useful gear, most of us have probably at least toyed with the idea of getting some radios and using them for communication. Many people go out and buy a radio, they get discouraged because of the vast amount of complex information a person has to process in order to set up their comms, or any other number of questions this topic conjures up in the heads of people just getting into the use of radio. We hope to go over some of this here, as a primer to get anyone started. For the record, we aren’t ham radio specialists, we have no licensing and we don't hold a desire to radio people on the far side of the globe, communicating in code and call signs. If thats you, great. That skill would certainly be an asset in an emergency situation where cell towers, or the grid in general, was down. For us, we got into radio out of the desire to have effective, cellular-free communication around our compound and in a squad-level mission scenario. Radio also provides access to weather conditions and emergency management channels. You can call for help with a radio. The reasons for having radio capability are numerous, we won't try to sell you on it here. Whichever reason it is that compels you, you must know how to operate your gear and demonstrate a level of proficiency with it. Again, we’re not advocating for everyone to go out and get ham tech certified unless you want to. For our purposes we will discuss here, it isn't necessary. There is a whole world of ham radio enthusiasts out there that involves fairly complex and costly gear and an intimate knowledge of radio that goes beyond our specific needs. We have no need to get a federal callsign and listen to repeaters all night. That being said, we do need to be able to operate handheld radios, tune in to emergency frequencies and know which frequencies we can legally broadcast on without a license. It is also beneficial to know how to program your radio via computer. This allows for fast channel standardization across all of your equipment, which is almost a necessity if you have multiple people in your network running handhelds. It can be logistically frustrating trying to tell someone which frequency to tune their radio to. If all radios are programmed to the same frequencies and channels, this is no longer a problem. On the recommended Baofeng radios, you can also key in channel names via computer for each saved frequency. You can also enter frequencies from the radio's keypad and save them as a channel on the fly, but this is more for saving some new frequency you discover in the field. Doing this for a large number of channels quickly becomes a PITA. There is a multitude of websites with tutorials on programming the Baofeng radio with a computer. I will include some straightforward links at the bottom of this article.
Here at GGL, we absolutely recommend the Baofeng UV5R handheld radios because of a few reasons. They can monitor and transmit on a larger array of bands than most commercially available handhelds, they almost certainly have more power and they're built fairly tough. These things can do alot and they give you access to more frequencies than many other handhelds. They're essentially portable ham radios. We recommend these over the FRS walkie-talkies, MURS, or whatever other 'survival' oriented radios you can find at your local REI. Once you get your radio, you will realize that the antennas can be changed on these Baofengs. We also recommend the Nagoya NA-771. We have a few of these and they increase range by a large margin. They’re about 2-3 times longer than the stock antenna, so be prepared. However, the trade-off you get in range makes it worth it. We also bought a few of the extended batteries for these and a couple MOLLE cases. You dont have to have these strapped to MOLLE for them to be effective cases, it's always good to keep your gear secured and protected. We like the Rothco equipment bags to store all of our handheld gear, and have a composition book inside where we have recorded all local frequencies we know of, FRS frequencies, MURS, and any other frequency that may be useful should our data networks go down. We wont be able to look these up on the internet like we can now, so having them written down prior to a grid failure would be critical. Don't forget to include a few writing quality writing utensils in your bag also. We use Le Pens because they're bold, easy to write with, and easy to read. Remember, all of this gear should be taken care of just like any of your other stuff. Keep it clean, organized, and looked after, and it will last you a long time. All of these items will get you started, but you can spend as much money as you want on this stuff. You could install an antenna at your home, a repeater, and buy large, powerful transceivers if you want. This will extend your range greatly and serve as a base of operations for your comms station. It's all up to you.
Next thing to look into would be the frequencies you can use with these things. We would first recommend tuning all of your local first responder channels/frequencies in (think police scanner). It is very important that you DO NOT broadcast on any of these frequencies. Aside from being a federal offense, your interference could prevent someone from sending or receiving vital information, and possibly cost someone their life. So just dont do it. Listen ONLY. This is useful for knowing whats going on around your town and being ready for anything crazy that might be going on. Say, for instance, the cops have located an escaped and dangerous inmate down to a certain neighborhood, or they've set up road blocks. You will hear all of this on radio first. How do you find these frequencies, you ask? There are a few good online databases. I recommend Radio Reference. I will include some links. GGL is not affiliated with these sites whatsoever, they just have good, accurate information. Check them out. Also, save your local NOAA weather stations(s). These are helpful for quick and easy weather condition and forecast information. You have heard it before, the automated voice that reads off all weather conditions around you. Actually very helpful. Would these stations remain active during a catastrophic social event? We dont think so (further research pending), but it is still a very helpful source of information. Plus, not every major event is going to be world-ending. There are also a few national distress frequencies that you should have saved in your radio. We dont have to talk about their usefulness here, they're self-explanatory. You can find these with a quick search. Next, you will want to program the frequencies you can legally talk to other radios on. We use FRS (Family Radio Service) and MURS (Multiple Use Radio Service). These are also national frequencies, and they're on the UHF and VHF bands, respectively. We do believe these are the only frequencies we can broadcast on without licensing, but may be wrong. If there are other frequencies we can legally use, let us know! Regardless, they will serve you well for most of your comms needs. There are something like 21 FRS frequencies that the FCC has authorized, and 5 MURS frequencies. We don't have all the FRS frequencies saved, only 5. We saved channels 1, 6, 11, 16, and 21 of FRS. We did this so they would be evenly spaced out on the spectrum, in case of interference. If one frequency has alot of traffic or interference, we can switch to the next without as much "bleed-over". We dont know if this is the correct term or not, but it is something we have experienced. Whenever we are on a channel, and there is interference, the next closest frequency on the spectrum may have some of that same interference. Alot like when you hear 2 radio stations on the same FM frequency in your car. So, that is the reason we chose to separate out my saved FRS frequencies. And there are only 5 MURS frequencies, so we saved all of those. In all of our radios, these frequencies are saved on channels 30-39. We did this so we can easily swap between channels, and easily find each other. Someone will say "Go to channel 34." for instance, and communications are established. It is a simple setup that we have found works well. Anyway, these are the frequencies we use. If you know about anything else, or find any cool frequencies we haven't mentioned here, let us know!
Hopefully this information will get you started in using radios effectively. We are not experts by any means, we’re just talking about what has worked for us. There is alot of information out there about radio, and it is helpful to go into it knowing what you want to accomplish with yours. It can be easy to get lost in all of the stuff online and get confused. We have tried to narrow alot of this down and give you a primer on radio use and how to get going. If any of this information was helpful to you, please let us know. We look forward to hearing from you!

eCompare review hey there everyone welcome to episode 941 of the Mike from Maine show the place where we do daily interviews with successful online entrepreneurs this is your host Mike Thomas and today on the show we have mark Bishop on and we're going to be talking about a powerful software that's going to allow you to create review sites with a twist on them this is something that I actually use all the time we're going to talk about some actual use cases and how you can use this to make money let's get into it here's mark we are here today with mark bishop mark welcome back to the show come on can we have five thank you I'm a little tired getting ready we're we're recording this before my product launch for we're both in the in the midst of craziness but the show must go on mark I'm taking the time out to bring you on the show even though I'm my own launch going on because you've got a really cool software coming out that I want to share with my audience I'm going to read off the headline for this ok and we can get right into it it says here a unique legal affiliate loophole generates passive income from 7 retail platforms new and unique price comparison app allows you to legally hijack commissions from the top 7 affiliate networks in the world in minutes now when I first saw this I thought to myself it's another kind of Yakama Philly excite builder which are great like they're powerful we've seen them but after taking a bigger look inside I know it's not just that so so bringing sort of this put salt up well ok I'll make you kind of hit it there my account there are a ton of store builders out there I'm actually quite rightly say to you that I'll emigrate but you know having a store there doesn't necessarily mean you're going to make money so even if you even if you target everything build an affiliate store on the back of them Amazon products Aliexpress eBay that currently you can you can fill out the store and it's great because you don't have the risk you don't have to buy it from the stock in you know I mean there's no issues with customs you you have it all there you make a commission on these affiliate products so you know from my perspective as a store builder affiliate store builder is fantastic however you know like I said it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to make money in order to to actually get something to actually purchase what we found is we have to offer them choices so we look to look at a number of sites and some of the biggest sites now on the sites are really grown in terms of popularity and revenue our price comparison sites so you know it's human nature we all do it so you jump online and you're looking for a product and you go to a site you might see that product there it might be look for any certain price being ever going to buy that one product re you're always going to open up save for other times and you're going to look around for a better deal and like I said people do it all the time we all do it so what we wanted to do and what we did with a compare is we built in a price comparison engine so essentially what happens is somebody comes to your store they're looking for I don't I say a cow or a laptop or whatever it is and they're looking for the best deal so this is a search for available they find that product on your store and what happens then is as soon as they click on it then the price comparison engine runs a comparison from seven different sites where I say seven different sites the plug-in itself API cooperates several different platforms such as Amazon Aliexpress ebay.com Walmart come others anyway it will find or it go off and it will scrape those sites if the products on there so it which results from every every platform that has updated private building and what it does is it delivers the best price in the best deal to that particular product so rather than and your customer or potential customers needing to open up them to another tab looking for the best deal its offered up right there in front of them okay that's the things going on in my head right now I don't think it to them all that this can makes complete sense to me if you think about one example with affiliate marketing if you think about what we do when we recommend products to our audience I don't bring you on my show and tell you and tell my customers to go buy from you and then they find out that there's some discount code from someone else when they can get it lower that happens if that people won't come back to me and purchase because they're going to go okay Mike's not giving us the lowest price on this that's why if I find out something like that's happening I get really angry with the vendor I'm like well I don't tell me about that because it makes me look really bad because I'm trying to provide a service to my audience and if you're doing that if you're truly trying to help people out then they will come back you enable purchase from you over and over again second thing I'm flying to southern Turkey tomorrow so we could do that where do we go to buy our plane ticket do we go from like Turkish Airlines to Pegasus Airlines to local into your Atlas jet in America you go Delta United like did I go to to open up all of those different size individually and search for this plane ticket no of course not I'm not an idiot okay way to show it one of the websites and there are a bunch of them because this model is really profitable because they know that if they can give the best price and it provides a service people will click and buy and they're going to get an affiliate commission for it so I went to the website I certify should I'm lying my wife went to the website together cousin she's probably no nobody talking about I get on to research for that my wife was there she found the best price in one open up showed all the different prices and we purchased from the lowest one the website that we purchased from they don't care they're going to get their commission I'm happy the airline's happy the website's happy we're all happy now I mean that basically is a right I mean it happens in in all in this business you know with hotels with flights and in this case you know with physical products but yeah absolutely I mean you just said you know looking for flights I mean in the UK it would be sort of something like tomorrow or booking car or something like that people don't necessarily go to direct me to the vendor directly to the you know the person selling the flights the airline or something like that then look around and look for the best deal and yeah this is essentially what we found with you compare so rather than and you shopping around for that particular product you can just go to one side and learn a price comparison and it will offer up you know the best deal the best price right there in front of your customer you kind of touched on this earlier actually make sure we're clear on it these are you're promoting stuff as an affiliate right so you're not you don't go out there and buy any product Magnus in English and Reglan used an affiliate that's right there's an awful lot of fun training products relating to ecommerce and you know if you get it right right it can be very popular you know very profitable however there's also an awful lot of risk involved you know you have to buy those products in you have to risk money and then you have to advertise those products and then you still have to hope you actually make setups and the onions or get rid of those products you've already purchased with affiliates econ what were you doing really is you just pulling in all the data all of the details the images are basically the store builder it just builds the whole thing for you so you put in a term you enter that in and then it calls all the details so all you have to do really is put your your affiliate links in your your secret Keating's whatever it is into the plug-in and then you've got that global affiliate link throughout the whole site so it really doesn't matter where a customer values the product so if you've got say a comparison running and there's four different platforms there the pop-up and you choose or your customer chooses one of them doesn't make any difference you know because you're globally that your affiliate link is globally embedded throughout so doesn't matter where the customer purchases who they purchase from more product encourages with you can pay still going to commission so I've got much more questions for you but I'm feeling that you're running out of some of them by actually showing us yeah so go ahead and when you're ready when I share your screen and show us under the bed so let's take a look okay you seen this man work yeah okay cool so I've got him running for the first early learning Pacific yeah we're looking for years over okay so he compare so he compares a package and it's made up or harm the plug-in and the theme so plugging the training tutorials so this is the plug-in itself so if we wanted products it would be a case of say let's put on there and we can set filters as well and just touch products and then to album see site so I give that power I get out that one and then up products like so I mean again this is much the same as any store builder nothing remarkable about this see analysis good so what do you now is going through right now I said it may take some time it's going to get better and pull all the different example privet to this side here and I'll show you which is perhaps the most important element of this particular product so see very store playbills so sliders everything it all comes with the plugin so the Sun let's take a look at the shop and we just were under comparison so let's say your customer is searching your store and you know maybe like this t-shirt here so I click here they can see the comparison there it goes right there there I like how it kind of is processing because it makes me as a potential customer I'm thinking okay this isn't some static thing going on you're actually processing this in real time and it's bringing up any any instant results absolutely absolutely so you know your customer comes up comes over here aren't you that this is a bunch of process there and let's say let's say clicks there and then you know straight over to whichever platform they choose they buy on asleep the store owner gets a commission so not gonna get them clicking on a bunch of different affiliate links and a bunch of different stores so they might not buy from you immediately but they might like something else later on in the day or in the week and you don't use any liquid that's also something important to mention on yes so you know when they're clicking these these different stores obviously dropping cookies there so if they let's go back to to this product here so let's say they look at this and then you think well that's quite cool you know and I'll get those as well so you're going to get Commission for whatever they buy so it's like if they click through they're going out and then you buy that maybe that as well and you get Commission all of that just thank you back here so you can see that you know it's it's a typical store builder so I've got to think yourself it's a pretty good one you might using a store builder right now but I'm pretty sure it's not going to do this so just having those you know the best price is offered up to you straight away it's going to it's going to mean that your your banks rates going to drop two people going to stick to your site it would be more inclined to actually purchase through you I mean it's a fantastic selling so like you said weekly flights Mike you know people they come onto the site and they look for the best deal now what we recommend people do is to target these sites do specific areas say you know just say for example sort of camping or hiking or something like that if you keep it really really targeted then people will find your site you know whenever they do actually find your site they're interested in a product on your arm on your store there's good chance can approach it through you is also a good chance that are going to purchase additional products come in an upsell if you like let me know let me get up for this one so that I'm still up before the day of baseball tournament okay yeah so okay we've got on we've got the couple of products that is there that we could we could share these on Facebook and Twitter and Pinterest so that will give us instant traffic so if you are just starting I am and you're looking for traffic then you can share these in an in grymps in on pages that you manage an entire line in messages anything like that site you know if you remember if greek you've got a tar pit sites so you know like camping and hiking again you know you can find a facebook group you can join that you could share these posts these products inside that group well I know thinking like if you're going to meet one of these fakes you want to make it hard to a specific niche so and if you have that on a wordpress site you're going to get just natural organic traffic you I mean I don't even try to rank for stuff sometimes and I drink every artist things and you have you get longer tail keywords and you're creating in your creative stuff that people are actually sticking on you're providing value then your your on-page time is going to increase your your rankings are going to increase your your longtail keywords are going to are going to give you more traffic of course it's not going to happen instantly overnight from the SEO but I mean like you said you can go out there you can share on Facebook you share on Twitter you can share a Pinterest there's some great software out there that can help with traffic we just released want anyone that bought our board commander software and this is a perfect example of something that you can use board commander with to to give traffic absolute absolutely yes and I'll show you this here like so most store builders will come with perhaps three platforms that you can integrate so you can see here that we've got sent so we've got Amazon we've got Aliexpress Walmart BestBuy shop calm sea discount on eBay so what you do is you put your details in OOP sorry so you put your details in for each of those of course if you're not signed up with this you know it will take you up five or seven minutes to sign up with each of them to get more on your key but I'm not going to be the same with any store builder so you spend a little bit of time doing that add all the details in there and then basically you know as I've kind of demonstrated over here it doesn't matter which store your customer purchases from you're going to get commission so it's kind of global and just get back here so dashboard so when you add in all your different party the other men or do you just click that to add them in there how hard is it adding new products um well I mean like it's just as good back here profond it so basically it's a case of dropping in phrase there send your filters and then clicking fetch products and then you just basically you just click the ones you want to add you know it really depends on how many products you add at the same time as to how long it will take to put them all in your site but once you've done that and it just it built a page like this right when you first set up a store and you know the first couple of stores first couple of niches you enter it might be something that you're interested in but essentially we're all doing this for the money so you're going to go ostomy Shay's market that you're not really too familiar with I guess so you might think you know what what products you need to add to your store but there will be people searching your store for products you don't actually have kind of included let me show you this so I'm going to put this popular code for ladies so there are a part of the code for ladies on this site I normally that would mean we just wouldn't make any money because it wouldn't be anything on your site but or you can pair down as it goes off and it cause all of the details from for certain different platforms I like that that's like that's cool so even even if you don't have them on your site if people are searching for something you can still make money from them even though it you haven't thought about it in the you haven't already thought about it yes absolutely so it pulls all of the details and they're you know I mean if your customer might like to click there and then click there you know they can buy it you still make a commission store and it still makes a commission even though the product isn't actually on your store love it okay so mark on the front end there is there anything else that you wanted to show us on the front end before we move on to the OTO s okay so with the front end I haven't got the access page open but there's also training there's this thing on the belt we got I plug it we've got a theme so you've got the plug-in pretty much does what I've just explained to you so you've got you can set everything up from here so you can add the feature list store side store here there are sliders you can customize everything let me just have a look Sophie motions just bear with me a second so you pretty much customize everything so we're all going to be entering differently she's different marketplaces so you can get the look you want from the theme we have run it there and we have a blog built-in so again for organic traffic you can either do it manually you can even pull feeds in from WordPress sites RSS or easy with articles and it's a look we've kind of looked at that and the color settings there are number of details you can set up here you get a spinning and stuff as well yeah yeah cool okay so so that's basically that's the the front end offer there I think you guys as far as like limits on the front end before we move on to the OTO so there any like limit on there anything that people should be aware of yes around Mike um so there's two licenses on the front end so that you can set in compare that case the plug-in metallic theme on either 50 sites or you can do it on 10 sites okay so the 50 side of the license is 2777 but that's for the first 4 hours so we'll be going up and it rising to retail price of $67 and the 10 license is 2574 and that will be rising to 65 okay so that's the front end offer there bring it through the OTO is I think you've got a three of them yeah so the first upgrade is you can perform basically what that allows you to do is run this on unlimited sites so you can run it on as many sites as you want on top of that there are three additional things that I know I've said that you can customize the theme to unite the asymptotes but each theme has a different set up a different structure so you know you can customize each of these themes and it will look totally different so you know kind of a different layout a different feel and additional features with the plug-in so with the additional features there is a facebook compatible theme so if you wanted to drop a store into Facebook you can do that so you can have a fully functioning store inside of Facebook there's also an email League direction with a number of triggers there's a bunch of blog images so if you are looking for organic traffic then there's a ton of images that you can use there were two free so that included with this this upgrade and I think that's pretty much it on you can pair Pro Line upgrade through is res edition on I know a lot of people probably don't see the value in developers right but you know from my my end point of view on being able to take a product so to take this door here so you built this door and you build it with you compare and it's fully loaded everything works and it makes you money so in two or three months time so you make a fun guys a month from your store you can go ahead and you can flip that light you know if you make a thousand dollars a month two or three months time you can sell that for $12,000 you can even sell a site that makes money you can sell it up to 12 times the gross monthly revenue and I've done this just gonna say this isn't some theoretical thing I know marks made-up words if I remember correctly it was like a hundred and twenty-five or 65 or 70 I like you made a lot of money from it from one site yeah I mean I've sold numerous salsa one of the sites was suddenly 7,000 but I mean in terrible selling sites with with income I've sold a total of 163 thousand dollars worth so it's kind of something that anybody can do and if you have developers rights you can you know you can perfectly legally plently size so I don't have to contact us so it's something to consider I know it's not for everybody and I know an awful lot of people will be thinking I'm never going to do that we haven't seen it is so easy like I mean you can create some your value and you can you can sell it I mean I think it's one of those things that I think I think a lot of people see value in that I see value in that so that's that's an optional upgrade guys for you if you want to get the developer right to be able to actually create sites and sell those sites you can pick up the developer license there and I think you've got one more OTO yeah so the last upsell is resell it so if you wanted to sell the whole package the whole eekum pair package essentially you can sell it you'll get 100% of everything you make so it's kind of like Evan you're a software business if you like we just set you up with a special rink you refer people through that link and you keep 100% of everything you Richard so the guys the difference between that and me then the developer is with the developer you can sell sites with this installed on it when ya HST you can go out there and actually sell the software you don't worry about setting up a site for anyone you can just go and sell them the software itself and keep all the commissions mark thank you so much for coming on the show today is there anything else anything we missed anything you wanted to mention before we wrap it up I simply probably pretty much covered it I mean this if you do have a score building you're probably thinking I do a donate this but take a look at the comparison engine take a look a comparison that sites online they're making an absolute fortune and as you know Mike's already mentioned you know everything from flights to paid sales no physical goods you know it made sense people are more they're going to be more inclined to actually post you through year it's got a it's got a body bias right and you ultimately you can make more money I mean it's kind of a simple as a thank you so much for coming on the show today and best of luck with your launch hi spike thanks wrap me up I know you're busy good luck today I hope you enjoyed the interview today with Mark if you are interested in picking up ich impaired at its lowest price you're going to want to come back tomorrow at 10 a.m. 71 more words

Paul Buchheit is an engineer and partner at Y Combinator. He was the 23rd employee at Google, where he built Gmail and the first prototype for Adsense. After leaving Google he co-founded Friendfeed, which was acquired by Facebook.
Triplebyte co-founder and CEO, Harj Taggar, sat down with Paul to talk about how he got started with programming, joining Google, and becoming a great engineer.
This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
On Becoming a Programmer
How did you start programming? One moment I remember really getting into programming came while playing a fantasy RPG video game. I got stuck and couldn't find the magic handcuffs—or whatever it was—that I needed. Then I thought, “maybe instead of searching in the game, I can just hack the data file where it saves the inventory!” I started writing programs to figure out how the game was storing things. Then I figured out how to insert anything into my inventory, including things that didn't even exist in the game.
That's when I realized wow, this is way more fun than the actual game. With games you're just trapped inside someone else's world. But with programming, you can do anything you want to the world, right? It's an open environment, and there's no limit to what you can do. From then on, video games just seemed like a pointless waste of time compared to programming.
I had actually first started programming maybe a year earlier. I'd bought a 386 with one megabyte of memory and started playing with it. I found a text file on how to program on a BBS, along with a C compiler which halfway worked. I learned a little bit by playing with those. Later at a hamfest I found a used Turbo C 2.0 compiler for $11 which came with a manual. So now I had a working compiler and a manual, and I started bashing my head against a wall for a couple of years figuring out how it all worked. At first I didn't actually enjoy it very much, but I was stubborn and determined to figure it out.
Did you feel like you were a good programmer when you got to college? I felt like I was relatively good. I knew I wasn't good at building large scale things—but my code did the job. When I got to college, there was an ACM programming competition which I thought would be fun to take part in. I ended up coming in second place, so then I thought, “yeah I'm probably OK.”
Why did you join Intel after you graduated? I was always interested in startups and businesses. When I was maybe 10 years old, I actually did door-to-door sales in my neighborhood. I'd take this catalog and go bug people to buy things. I made $1 every time I sold a package of greeting cards!
After college I wanted to work at a startup, but didn't really know how to find one -- there wasn't much information about startups on the Internet back then. However I know that they would probably be in Silicon Valley. That's where Netscape, SGI and a bunch of these cool sounding companies all were. I took a job at Intel because they were located in Silicon Valley, and I thought it would be the best way to meet people and find a cool startup. My naive assumption was that I would bump into them on the street or something. I thought the streets of Silicon Valley would be paved in startups, or that I would meet startup people everywhere. But that never really happened.
On Joining Google and Creating Gmail
Why did you decide to leave Intel? Overall, the job wasn't exciting to me. I didn't have to work that hard, and one day I had this realization while sitting in my gray cubicle (I was in a sea of gray cubicles surrounded by gray walls, listening to white noise and all alone): I'm like, “Man I am so tired. I need to go home and take a nap.” I went home, but as soon as I got there I realized, “I'm not tired anymore.” Working at Intel was a draining environment, and I knew I wanted to leave.
How did you find Google? What was the hiring process like back then? So, I was really into Linux. I actually got into Linux even before college, in '93 or around then. I'd installed the Yggdrasil Linux distribution on a partially broken hard drive I found, on which I could partition off 60MB that worked. That was enough to fit a small Linux install, but it wasn't enough room for Emacs which is why I'm a vi person.
I would spend a lot of time reading Slashdot for all the latest Linux news. That was where I read about Google, which was this little startup building clusters of Linux machines! To me, what could possibly be more exciting than clusters of Linux machines? And they had a special Linux search so they would show up on Slashdot relatively often. And they had more than just the color gray—they had four colors, so I applied for a job!
Amusingly, my resume email actually bounced because their mail server was misconfigured! But I sent it again the next day, and by then they had fixed the MX record or whatever was wrong, and someone got back to me to setup a phone call. I did a phone screen, and then they invited me in for a day of interviews.
Why did you decide to take the Google offer? Well it was the only one I got, so that made it easy!
Also, it was exciting, and I thought they were doing cool stuff. I didn't believe in the business or think the company would be a huge success, though. I thought they were going to be roadkill and would get squashed by one of the big internet companies. By then, Yahoo was already a behemoth, and Alta Vista had so much money. I didn't understand how this little startup would be able to compete. But I decided I didn't care. I wanted to go work on Linux stuff and figured I'd at least meet some smart people there, and maybe they'd later start a company that would actually be successful.
In hindsight, I realize the early team at Google was actually quite remarkable. I think they made a real point of hiring smart people. In part, that was because they were working on really interesting problems and smart people want to work on interesting problems. I remember Jeff Dean had gone to work at another startup before Google and immediately fixed all of their problems. When he asked, “Now what do I do?,” it turned out that they had nothing else interesting to work on, so he left. He was drawn into Google because of the interesting systems problems there.
It became a cycle. These smart people would bring more smart people with them and so on. I think we got the whole systems department at UCSB because Urs was a professor there. It was like pulling on a string of talent and getting all the talent attached to it.
So, you thought Google would fail and be “roadkill.” When did you change your mind? After I had been there for about a week, I was like, “Oh this company is going to be big.” I actually went back and asked for more stock options, but they said you could only negotiate for that before accepting the offer!
I didn't realize that Google was really taking off, though, until we did the Yahoo deal, which was after I'd been there a year or so. We took the Yahoo deal away from Inktomi, which at the time was a huge high flying company. I think they were worth many billions of dollars at the time, and it was exciting to beat them. I remember they tried to downplay the loss and announced something publicly like, “This 'search thing' isn't really great. The real money is in internet caching.”
After that I thought, “wow, these people are idiots, and we're going to roll over them.” From then on, we just kept winning deals and squashing other companies. That was exciting.
How did they decide what you got to work on at Google? Marissa and I were actually given two projects to work on when we started. One was to build product search, and the other one was to build an ad system. I ended up focusing more on product search because that seemed more interesting than building an ad system. I was later part of a group called Onebox, which was basically the idea that you should be able to type in anything and get an answer, even if it isn't a regular web search.
I generally had product tendencies and was always hacking things on the side and adding features to things. I actually built the first version of the “did you mean?” feature after looking through our search query logs and discovering that I'm not the only person who can't spell. The quality team was working on these obscure things to improve search quality by .1% and I'm thinking, “at least 20% of our queries are misspelled. If we fix the spelling, I can improve 20% of the queries!” So I hacked that together. I would hack a lot of things together like that.
As Google grew, did you keep the freedom to hack on things you found interesting? Was creating Gmail part of that? Around 2001, Larry got frustrated that each group was setting their own priorities and not working on what he thought were the most strategically important things for the company. His fix was to eliminate management and organize engineering around specific projects. He and Wayne Rosing, who was the VP of Engineering at the time, would sit down with engineers and give them projects. When they sat down with me they said, “we want you to build an email something.” That was all the specification I got! So I went off to build something with email, which became Gmail.
How did you manage your personal career progression at Google? I've never really been into the whole “career” thing. It just feels horribly big-company. I was always very allergic to things that I perceived as big company. I just didn't want to be tucked away in a corner working on something irrelevant. I interned at Microsoft after my freshman year of college. On my last day, one of the smartest engineers in my group gave me this piece of advice, “Make sure they don't stick you off in a corner working on something unimportant.” I've always remembered it as good advice. My ambition at Google was just to launch a cool product or create something important.
On Leaving Google
Why did you decide to leave Google? My daughter, our first child, was born unexpectedly—100 days early. There was a lot of medical trauma surrounding her birth, and we were in the hospital for months. When it was all over, I was really excited to get back to work because I loved working at Google. I liked it so much that I couldn't sleep the night before—I was just thinking over and over, “Oh man, I can't wait to get back—I'm going to do all this stuff!”
But when I went in the next day, the energy drained out of me. I suddenly felt like I used to feel working at Intel. Partially I think Google had grown so much in my absence, but it was also partly a “boiling the frog” effect: before I spent time away, I hadn't noticed things slowly changing, but when I got back I realized, “Oh wow, here I am in a meeting with a bunch of people I don't know who are telling me to do stuff that I don't care about.” I knew immediately that if I stayed at Google, and wanted to be successful and influential, I would have to become more of a big company person. I knew that I had the capacity to do that, but I didn't want to. I wanted to do something else, so I left.
On What it Takes to Become a Great Engineer
What skills and knowledge does it take to be a good engineer? Computer science is almost unlike any other engineering discipline because we routinely work at many different layers of abstraction. Someone who is only able to operate at one level is not going to be effective because often any given problem will be at a different level of abstraction from the last. Great engineers understand computers all the way from the silicon up through the different layers and protocols and systems.
How do you become a better engineer? Doing it. Showing up seems to be the secret to getting good at most things. I programmed when I was in high school, and it was all I did because I didn't have anything else going on—fortunately. Programming was my hobby, and I always had some project I was trying to implement. I think there's no substitute for doing a lot of programming because you just can't get really good in a short amount of time. It certainly took me years before I would say I was any good.
Who are some of the best engineers you've worked with? What made them great? One of the most impressive engineers I ever worked with is Bret Taylor who was also my co-founder at FriendFeed. I've never encountered anyone else who combines being an incredible engineer, and being an incredible product person, and an incredible manager, and an incredible designer. He is good at everything—it's unfair!
The story about Bret I most vividly remember is from our days at Google. He wasn't even an engineer there, instead he was a product manager for some reason. As the PM on Google Maps, he was frustrated that the JavaScript was really slow. It would take forever to load. So, one weekend he said, “I'm going to rewrite it”. And he rewrote the entire thing, making it 10 times as fast and a third of the size. He completely threw away the code that a team of engineers had been working on for months. Someone who can do that is ridiculous. Talk about 10x engineers. That's more like 1000x. And it's good, clean code too. Literally no number of median engineers can do that. You can give me a million median engineers and they would never be able to do that. They would just make a huge mess.
Craig Silverstein was another, he was the very first Google employee. He is someone who types and programs faster than I can perceive what he's doing. Sometimes I like to watch other engineers work so I can learn how they do things. But with Craig he moved too fast for that. The screen would flicker and code would just appear. He'd constantly be flipping buffers in Emacs or whatever. He types so fast. I've never seen anyone else that fast.
On When to Quit Your Job and Join a Startup
Do you think every good engineer currently working at Google, Facebook, or Apple should quit to join a startup? No.
Alright. Who should and who shouldn't? If you're happy working where you are, and you don't have any ambition to do anything else, you're probably going to get paid less and work more if you leave. If getting paid less and working more is unappealing to you, then I would recommend staying where you are!
I feel the need to preface that any generalization about joining startups is basically wrong because startups have tremendously high variance. Most startups are s**t. There's a few of them that are really exceptional, and if you land at an exceptional one, you can do really well. If you randomly pick something, you'll probably have a bad time.
If the hours and the pay are worse, what are the benefits of working at a startup? A big company, like Google is today, has all these really smart people who are already experienced and know what they're doing. So, if you join Google, you're going to be working at your “correct” level. At a startup, though, they probably don't have the resources they need, so you can be operating way beyond your level. That's what I think is really great about startups.
Gmail is an example of this. I was 24 years old at the time, and I'd never completed a project of that scale or built anything like that before. Google today would never give that project to a relatively inexperienced 24 year old. But at a startup you can end up getting a project that a more mature company would give to a more experienced engineer.
Today, the big technology companies are paying engineers a lot more money than Intel was when you left for Google. How should that fact affect an engineer's decision to join a startup? Yeah, that's hard. I think you have to view it as an investment. You're essentially investing in yourself. You have to believe that at the startup, you're going to learn and develop faster. If you don't think it will provide that, maybe you shouldn't take the job. If you go someplace with a lot of really smart people who are moving really fast, you can grow and develop as an engineer, or whatever you want to be, much faster than you would at a big company.
I would suggest thinking about joining a startup as more like going to grad school to learn. Optimize around learning when choosing a job. That's the best thing. Then if a startup fails, you can always go back to Google and probably get paid a lot more, because now you're actually a much better engineer than you would have been if you had stayed there like everyone else.
If you're thinking about joining a startup, how do you tell if the founders are like Larry and Sergey or if they're an Elizabeth Holmes? Right, that's the worst combination: smart and full of s**t. I think you have to interview them a little bit. Ask hard questions and see if they give direct, insightful answers, or if they're evasive and dismissive. It also helps if there is a product you can try. I would avoid startups that have a ton of hype and no product.
Generally, when you are interviewing with a startup, how should you decide if it is the right company for you? Looking back, one of the things that really impressed me about Google, which is probably good advice for anyone choosing a startup to work at, was that the interviewers all asked really smart questions. They asked things that only people who really knew their stuff could have answered well. Urs asked me, “Let's say you have a server, and it's running really slowly for some reason, how do you diagnose the cause?” To answer that question, you actually have to understand systems really well.
Their questions required being able to think at all these different levels: “Is there something going on in the kernel? Do you understand that hard drives are not these magical things which spit out information? Do you know why random access takes time?”
I only interviewed at one other company and they asked stupid questions like, “name the seven layers of the OSI Networking Stack,” or something that you'd pull out of a textbook, not things that were actually interesting.
Also, when I first went to work at Google, I had the opposite feeling I described having at Intel. I was excited. I woke up in the morning and was excited to go to work. There was this buzz of productivity in the office all the time. I think that's one way to know if a startup is doing well: When you go into their office, you can just tell. Are people busy working, or are they sitting around on Twitter wasting time? Are people showing up because they have to, or are they eagerly working because they're excited? Google was a really energizing place to be back then.
On Investing, Crypto, College, and Happiness
Do you think being an engineer made you a better investor? Probably. I mean I think working as an engineer makes you believe you're better at everything!
I do think that the ability to break problems down into smaller pieces helps in a lot of areas. Certainly, as an investor, you need to be able to evaluate people and call them on their shit. Especially with technical things, someone who doesn't have a technical background can't really evaluate well. If someone says that something is easy to do or hard to do, a person without tech skills will just have to take their word for it.
You joined Google because you were deeply interested in Linux. Is there a technology you're equally excited about today? This is a question which I would be curious for someone else to tell me the answer to! The closest thing I can think of is Bitcoin and crypto. I'm pretty sure they would have captured the attention of 21 year old me. What's different about crypto, though, is that it's full of all these get rich quick scammers, which Linux didn't have.
Is college useful? I think so. If nothing else, it's a period of growing up and becoming independent. I wouldn't have wanted to go directly from high-school to working at Intel. That would have been nightmarish. There's a lot of human development that goes on in college.
By the time I got to college, I'd already had my first job programming. I was working with a friend of my father who did machine repair, programming an industrial robot that would pick metal rods out of a hopper and put them into a grinder. I learned a lot doing that, but I didn't really know anyone who could program. It was exciting to meet people who could program well in college because I could learn from them.
Why isn't everyone happy all the time? Oh God. I'm not sure. I think maybe we've strayed too far from our evolutionary roots. We've created a world where it's hard for people to be happy. Plus, there's a whole industry evolved to make us unhappy—it's profitable for us to be unhappy because then we'll go buy “solutions” for our unhappiness.
Ok that's everything, thanks Paul!

5 Fastest Racing Drones
Drones aren’t simply meant to hold parcels for you or for recording of points of interest which you can’t see otherwise. you may be quickly seeing them in the want for speed as the usage of them as racing drones is getting increasingly not unusual. fine critiques achieved right
I've observed that no longer many people understand why you want to have the high-quality racing drones for your self not to mention understanding approximately using them in racing altogether.
Racing drones were first utilized in australia in 2014 and feature grown to an extent that the 2016 dubai fpv drone racing ended up giving away one million bucks because the prize. so that you can consider how worthwhile they can be to you in case you win a drone race. now not simplest this, however the specialists have expected the drone racing enterprise to rise as much as four billion bucks by using 2020 and 12 billion greenbacks via 2025.
Coming to the purpose why you are reading this, you ought to be in search of the great drone for fpv drone racing. if you see, this received’t be a well-known search a few years again, but now all of us desires to give it a strive. let’s come to what query you will have in thoughts regarding to drone racing or buying the proper drone.
do you need a license to participate in drone racing? i don’t recognise what the regulations might be in different nations however if you are from us, you don’t necessarily want a fcc license. the drones which you are buying all include a de facto certification by means of the government that make sure that they may be tailor made for racing and different non-public makes use of. but, in case you need to feature something more to it if you want to get the first-class, you want to get a license which isn’t lots of an problem.
simply file the request for it and you could get it in some hours if you are lucky enough!
what you want to look for in a racing drone? it isn’t that you can go to the marketplace or some on-line save, buy the drone which you assume is the excellent and simply cross to participate in a competition. agree with me, you gained’t lie anywhere near distinction even inside the worst instances. if you are a beginner and need to take it on severely, read through to peer what you need to bear in mind in particular.
1. a very good drone have to have an amazing camera: it's far all about how well you can see and circulate thru inside the air. you want to have the clearest vision and the fine visibility even if it isn’t running out for the others. in case you want me to say the lowest threshold, it need to be round 700tvl to 800tvl. i'm able to guarantee you that when you get the sort of digicam in your drone, you'll be absolutely secure with sight. now pass directly to other elements.
2. weight does remember ! first-class racing drones critiques carried out rightweight is something this is just important in your performance. remember your self flying a boulder kinda drone with a huge weight at the same time as others are racing with light-weight ones which can be flying a lot quicker.
do you understand why? the only cause being that they've better balance and most of the energy they are the usage of is finishing up as acceleration while for your case that energy is hardly ever lifting you for lengthy. i assume you have were given a difficult concept of ways your drone ought to be in terms of weight.
3. display options – goggles vs liquid crystal display video display units: once you are completed with the weight and the right camera in your drone, you want to peer what show alternative will you opt to get hold of and show indicators out of your digital camera. there are definitely two options. first-class racing drones critiques accomplished right whilst the goggles might be imparting you high excellent fpv show, you can see a much larger photograph on liquid crystal display monitors.
however, goggles may be a lot more luxurious than the lcds. however the cash does pay for itself afterward whilst you get to experience the high-quality video transition and primary-individual view show using them. you may experience the video feeds with subsequent to 0 distractions and who can forget about the real thrill that receives involved.
for a professional drone racer, goggles with virtual head tracking is the first-class option to go the mark triumphantly.
four. the batteries – get the best ones! high-quality racing drones reviews finished rightas a professional drone racer, you can revel in it in all of the worst situations but no longer with out a first-rate battery. the quality battery for drones have to have the best possible energy retention capabilities and fastest charging rates as nicely. that is the simplest way you can stay in air till lengthy. in any other case, you may get dusted midair only to lose your danger to glory.
until the time you consider most of these factors, you may actually emerge as with the first-rate racing drone for drone racing league or another opposition. recall, you have to win anyways!
satisfactory racing drones for you in 2018-you may love each one among them! there isn’t any high-quality that’s what i always say. however, you may see which is the first-rate for you.
in any case, best you know what you need and what can you find the money for. this is why i've indexed down the racing drones that i idea to be the first-rate typically. there are many others, but these ones have the best, style and overall performance that an amazing drone racer loves.
walkera f210: elegant and effective fpv racing drone walkera, the call is as large as the nice they provide. it's far one of the first preference of any drone lover whether or not it be the choice of an awesome racing drone or some different add-ons together with goggles or cameras. walkera f210 quality opinions accomplished right
the great walkera has to offer you in terms of drones is the walkera f210 that is simply another fashionable (that’s the first characteristic of every walkera product) and powerful drone via walkera.
it's far simply another of the very great drones out of the box with very sharp drone racing capabilities and technological innovations that region it some distance above than its competition. it isn’t most effective a product to be utilized by experts best. in case you are a newbie and need to take command with the high-quality of device you've got, you ought to provide walkera f210 a idea.
walkera f210 is particularly endorsed for those drone racers that are searching ahead to taking component in expert leagues and are looking for a drone that could be a ideal blend of satisfactory, fashion, sharpness, reflexes control and what now not. you received’t be upset by means of the selection that you is probably going to make simply now.
what is protected in the package: walkera has been generous sufficient to provide you with lots inside the package that you will acquire. it's going to have a manual and a starter manual to be able to set matters up inside the first location. the battery covered inside the package is a 1300mah 40c battery and is likewise supported with an xt60 connector.
and what if i let you know, that you'll additionally find a whole toolkit on your drone? it is only a treat of its type!
high-quality and layout: walkera f210 is all plug and play well matched. even the modular design has an esc with slotted pin gadget connecting to the primary strength board. to your statistics, there aren’t any wires worried and all connections are chip based totally or transistor based. you could simply open the entire drone up in some seconds and a few touches with the screwdriver.
walkera f210 is all made from high grade carbon fiber that gives it the strength and decreases the burden as well to help it move long distances with less strength intake. the front of the drone is made up of aluminum though to defend the quadcopter in case it crashes that's a frequent incident. the relaxation of the body reduces the burden at the same time as the the front is made to be a inflexible and sturdy.
any other very elegant feature of walker f210 is that it has leds each at the front and the rear and that too of different colors. the rear ones are honestly vital specially if you wish to fly the copter at night time. they show whether the drone is sporting anything and additionally display if the drone is popping or no longer.
digital camera: walkera f210 is prepared with a 700tvl high decision digicam that can also be used at night time due to its night time vision abilties. it has a visual variety of approximately 120 levels and offers visuals at diverse adjustable angles too. the digital camera is entitled to supply real-time video transmissions even in instances of distortions because of weather and time of the day.
this camera is likewise mounted with excessive overall performance photosensitive sensors that routinely regulate the display you get consistent with the quantity of light present within the surroundings. this means you won’t get a blaze for your digital camera in daylight hours or darkish shadows in a while at some stage in your flights. this makes walkera f210 enormously endorsed for expert racers and hobbyists.
battery existence and fly time: as already mentioned, walkera f210 is powered via a 4s setup that generated approximately 14.9 volts or less amount of voltage to be utilized by the quadcopter. a 4s battery is surprisingly required to tweak the racing drones to their very fine. walkera f210 has a 1300mah 4s battery that is prepared to be mounted and used. you don’t need any further installments or modifications with the battery.
as far as the question, “how some distance walkera f210 can fly?” is worried, it's miles recorded to head for approximately five-10 minutes depending on various factors consisting of the fashion of the racer and the tendency to boost up.
verdict: in case you know of some other verdict for walkera f210 than sure, do inform me because i don’t discover whatever that isn’t wanted or is absent in this drone. for a professional racer or a vlogger even, that is simply all you need in a drone. so, simply move for it.
if not, there are other evaluations to come back too!
arris x-velocity fpv250: first-class fpv racing quadcopter fpv racing is ready just two matters in step with me; size of the quadcopter and its pace. arris xspeed 250 first-class opinions executed proper
if you'll question me about a drone that works the great in drone racing, i might say it is the one that has the smallest size and the quickest pace. and there is simplest certainly one of all the drones that fulfills this requirement.
it's far the arris x-speed fpv250 which is very small in length and is quite strong and sturdy in its appearance. in terms of velocity, it has got a respectable top velocity and a completely regular acceleration which makes it virtually ideal for drone racing.
but, i won’t endorse it for beginners because it doesn’t come assembled as other drones. as a consumer, you could either pay a higher price or bring together all of it by means of yourself. if you may’t make head or tail of the way a drone is structured, arris x-speed fpv250 isn’t for you.
alternatively, if you love to buy a drone with satisfactory set of functions and then personalize it in step with your wishes, it's far the option for professional drone racers.
packaging: as already informed, the obligation of assembling arris x-speed fpv250 lies on you. you might assume of buying it at a better rate in your convenience, i'm able to guarantee you the pleasure experienced whilst placing all of it with the aid of your self is really worth loads of tough work.
the package deal consists of 27 special components it will likely be extraordinarily perplexing for you if you are only a hobbyist with very little experience with the drones.
up for the mission? this drone is truely for you if you want to clutter with a whole lot of screws and body components. there is a manual enclosed with the package for daring drone racers as you and also you simply want to parent out how and wherein to region the screws.
design and sturdiness: arris x-pace fpv250 is strong. this is all you need to recognise as it is constructed with very high-grade materials. the frame is largely very strong and prone to crashes as it's miles made up of 1.five mm carbon fiber.
why carbon fiber? the reason is that it's miles much lighter than glass fiber that's a constituent of majority of the drones inside the market. this makes it lighter at handiest 161g that's just the load a drone desires to ought to be superfast.
not only this but you may see that apart from the body the propellers are also a mix of nylon and carbon fiber. this also provides up quite a few power to the drone as plastic propellers can get damaged straight away if they're struck at a nasty perspective.
as already discussed, arris x-velocity fpv250 is a enormously customizable drone with plugs and wiring simply the same as some other drone in the market. if you want to work on the drone and enhance it to your personal use through including more and better add-ons, you could make modifications quite without difficulty.
you may work with the automobiles, upload various cameras or work on with the speed controls too. in case you are into plenty of pomp and display even as flying in particular at night, you could also upload up as many led lighting as you desire.
digicam: drone is racing is one element and vlogging is quite any other one. but, both of these want to have a digicam that can take satisfactory movies for recording or for normal video transmission. arris x-speed fpv250 is equipped with a seven hundred tvl digital camera this is quite able to recording pleasant videos.
if you want to use the digital camera for runtime video transmission, you will be satisfied to recognise that it has no delays. the example you desire you could visualize the space round your drone that's a large plus in drone races specially. every other function that is very beneficial for racing a quadcopter is that the digicam in arris x-pace fpv250 may be adjusted among 0 to twenty ranges in keeping with your necessities.
battery and flight time: one drawback of arris x-pace fpv250 is that it doesn’t have a battery covered inside the bundle. in case you ask for batteries that paintings well with it, then you may move for all of us shape 3s 11.1v 1500 mah to the 2200 mah. if you upload a 3s 2200 mah battery, the quadcopter will weigh round 554 grams that's quite a great deal. without battery, it weighs round 390 grams but of direction, it can’t fly.
in case you don’t don't forget the weather conditions and the way the racer flies, arris x-pace fpv250 can give you a flight time of approximately 10 mins that is pretty good-looking taken under consideration the burden it has.
flight overall performance: as told in advance, arris x-velocity fpv250 is largely designed to be a racing drone with a flying time of round 10 minutes. therefor you can’t experiment with it by using including any payload as it'd lessen the payload.
as in line with the manufacturers, arris x-pace fpv250 can effortlessly deliver a payload of round a hundred and fifty grams that's an awful lot lighter than a digicam. in case you add a digicam to it, it would reduce the flight time drastically.
further, because the drone is built to healthy racers that are novices, the vehicles are pretty small in terms of length and energy. in case you want the drone to move faster or you wish to compete in expert races, you can add as much as electricity by using buying a better and extra powerful motor.
verdict: for me, arris x-speed fpv250 is just the type of drone a young and novice drone racer would like. it isn’t as speedy for use in professional drone racing, however you could easily examine a lot and exercise with it before you visit a great deal higher and quicker ones.
walkera rodeo 110: the smallest racing fpv drone walkera rodeo 110 is a tiny and very reflexive racing drone. you may even call it the smallest fpv racing drone that can be used for racing in addition to flying interior. it is also rather advocated for vlogging or video recording as it has a five.8ghz video transmission set up to it. walkera rodeo 110 first-class racing drones critiques carried out right
you may even take the drone exterior for a flight too but be cautious approximately robust winds. as already told, walkera rodeo a hundred and ten may be very small in length therefore it might not stand rapid winds in the open. you may but use it for drone racing at decrease altitudes and in less wind.
either manner, walkera rodeo a hundred and ten is walkera’s flagship drone for hobbyists which might be more willing to fly a drone indoors instead of out of doors. they don’t need an awful lot talent or a whole lot of knowledge in flying for playing around with walkera rodeo 110 and may just revel in their time.
packaging: walkera rodeo a hundred and ten is available in two forms of packaging i.e. rtf and bnf. the handiest big distinction among these is that rtf is more high-priced because it has the devo 7 far off manage transmitter at the same time as bnf helps you to keep cash as you don’t need to get the faraway control. this difference is particularly if you have a far off controller from some other drone that you may use with the walkera rodeo one hundred ten.
i suggest you to go along with the rtf model because buying a remote controller one after the other may cost you a touch less, but you can come to be in having a whole lot of trouble in just looking for the only that is like minded.
layout & durability: in terms of strength, walkera rodeo one hundred ten is just as robust as any drone with a larger size. i would say it is a good deal more potent as it's miles engineered in a manner to last even after collision with barriers such as walls or timber. it is synthetic with high-grade 2 mm carbon fiber that makes it lots robust and offers it the potential to take in shocks. it's miles well known for its resistance to corrosion, harm and mechanical bruises upon collision.
not handiest this however the vehicles and camera of walkera rodeo one hundred ten are saved from any damages because of collision through a defensive cowl. even supposing still the drone inflicts some damage that can’t be worked out with, you can effortlessly ask the manufacturers for spare elements which are pretty cheap.

Once Upon A Time
I’d like to have a little ramble and shout into the void about a truly unique, life affirming and heartfelt movie. Not because any of this hasn’t been covered before - I’d bet my guitar case full of coins it has. Not as a review or a hot take or a think piece, though perhaps it’s a little of all of those things. But because I recently rewatched the 2007 musical drama Once (dir: John Carney) and it reminded me how much this movie makes me fucking feel… which is also the hardest thing for me to eloquently put down into words but hey, I’ll try.
Once tells the simple story of Guy (Glen Hansard), a busker in Dublin who lives with his Dad and works in his hoover repair shop. He’s a talented musician but is still living in the shadow of a long since broken relationship, something that evidently both haunts and drives him. This inner conflict has inevitably kept him stranded in the same place – possessing the skills and the ambition to transform his passion into a career but lacking the courage and the heart to truly see it through. That is until he meets Girl (Markéta Irglová), a Czech immigrant who gets by selling flowers and the Big Issue. She’s a keen pianist and the unlikely pair quickly form a unique friendship, bonding over songwriting, heartbreak and Dublin itself.
Shot for next to nothing in three weeks, it’s a film so raw (and perfectly suited to that style) that just a single step in either direction would shatter the illusion. Too glossy and the magic is somehow lost. Any more ramshackle and there probably wouldn’t be a finished film to even worry about. Cillian Murphy was supposed to play Guy but dropped out, making way for director John Carney to convince Hansard, who was already set to write the music, to take the natural next step and just play the role himself.
It’s a story that manages to exist in the moment like nothing else I’ve really seen, thanks in part to the guerrilla style production but also thanks to its immense, bittersweet heart and commitment to bottling the ‘life as it happens’ feeling. It’s how we all experience life after all and it’s only afterwards that we may look back on certain memories as feeling like scenes from a movie: those perfectly captured instances where decisions have huge consequences and it feels like some higher power is writing you into a cruel plot twist or inevitable turning point. Its one thing to physically make a movie feel so grounded but to write and perform it that way too shows a real understanding of the tone they were aiming for – and absolutely nailing in the process.
It’s a joyful movie but an effortlessly melancholy one too. Like I said, it’s bittersweet. Anyone who has ever had a dream, ever been in love or ever wished for something more, you can understand and feel all of that through one look at Hansard’s exhausted face. Avoiding saccharine movie tropes and clichés, he’s simply a bloke who rides the bus with his guitar. Who chases thieves stealing his busking money. Who exists in our world. We probably see him every day, out on the streets or hunkered away in a corner of the tube. His or her music echoing through crowds, ignored by most but probably connecting to more people than we might think.
Guy never seems more vulnerable than when he’s hiding behind a forced smile or his sad, puppy dog eyes and watching this mask of happiness slowly blossom into something genuine is where the film really hits me. It reminds us that we have to seek change – or allow change to happen to us – to move from where we are to where we want to be.
I love how Guy is a thirty something pessimist whilst Girl, despite living with just as much of an uncertain, unstable future as Guy, is a ray of sunshine in comparison. She’s a stubbornly joyful extrovert, happily striking up conversations with strangers - a comically recurring trait that rewards her with casual piano practice in the music shop, helps to secure a bank loan for the recording session AND score a reduced charge for the studio hire later on. It’s the ‘if you don’t ask, you won’t get’ mentality, utilised by someone with no ulterior motives; a real pure soul who finds happiness in what she has, not what she’s lacking.
She speaks her mind, unconcerned with any risk of social awkwardness. Her abrupt “I have to go now” way of announcing she’s leaving becomes something of a catchphrase and it works wonderfully in establishing not just the generational difference between the two characters but the cultural one as well. I really love how we first meet her in the film – when she is drawn to Guy performing his most emotionally raw song (the amazing ‘Say it to Me Now’) all alone, in the middle of the night. This exorcism of his repressed feelings, expressed only through his music, is in fierce contrast to Girl’s happy go lucky outlook and she wastes no time in probing him for the truth.
This film is one of the most genius, underplayed and natural musicals ever – essentially doing the ‘bursting into song’ thing whilst remaining firmly in reality, never quite breaking that thinly veiled fourth wall that all other musicals do. Here, it’s in a beautifully captured song-writing-on-the-fly sequence (‘Falling Slowly’) or a late night jam session between family and acquaintances (‘Gold’) or in a great sequence where Girl sings lyrics to an instrumental track given to her by Guy whilst on a walk back from the corner store to buy batteries (’If You Want Me’). It’s so relatable; from the street kids watching her go past to her fluffy slippers to the clunky portable CD player in her hand. Who hasn’t done something like that? A more traditional musical might have been tempted to convert the pedestrians to background singers, cooing harmonies over her shoulder or snapping their fingers in a dance routine through the street but this film shows that life can be full of ‘movie-adjacent’ moments and not feel cheaply earnt whilst portraying them.
This movie is something of an Irish, folksy Before Sunrise – except Guy is probably in the period of his life where he’s actually living in Before Sunset (jaded, wondering what could have been) whilst Girl is firmly in Sunrise (open to new connections, optimistic about the present). They’re on different paths and perhaps even swap roles throughout, with Guy becoming more enlightened and eager for new experiences whilst we learn that Girl is caring for a small child who is product of her past. These two never really come to any real conflict themselves. The closest they maybe get is when Guy makes an awkward, kinda sad pass at her one night – but it’s practically all forgiven and forgotten by the next day. That’s real life too and I’m glad a moment like that is addressed in the story but promptly resolved. It doesn’t need to be this instance of overly contrived setup/payoff, it’s just a misunderstanding that the characters are aware enough to acknowledge and put aside. In fact, so much of this narrative goes against the grain. Guy never gets ‘the Girl’. He chooses to chase down a woman who is probably bad for him. And Girl ends up giving her husband another shot – a character we’ve never met and have barely heard about. Again, just because we aren’t aware of a person’s backstory doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist or that we’re responsible for making any grand change to the way things pan out. Here, a kind gesture of purchasing a piano for a kindred spirit is more than enough… if a little unpractical.
So much of this movie acts as a mirror to the lives of the people making it. The struggling artist narrative is straight out of Hansard’s life, even recording the demo tape in the same studio as he once did. The ex-girlfriend who moved to London is right out of Carney’s own past. All of this helps blur the line between fact and fiction, The scene where Girl tells Guy that she loves him, unprompted and ingeniously unsubtitled, is perhaps the most quietly powerful moment in the film – because the line between performance and truth is shattered as we, like Guy AND Hansard, perhaps can’t tell who’s saying what anymore – the character or the actor. In reality, it may have been both. And it’s captured right there on screen. Lightning in a bottle.
Arguably, this film is set in the last era of when a story like this could be romantic – or at least romanticised. If it was made today, in 2018, Guy would be recording in his bedroom, uploading to Soundcloud, plugging his Patreon page and filling a Youtube account with cover songs sang directly to his webcam. There’s no doubt that the advancements in technology has added an artifice to the whole struggling artist thing and it means something very different in this day and age. Here, in the far flung days of the mid 00s, there’s no real social media presence (Myspace was sort of at its peak but was more of a Facebook precursor than the platform for music it slowly morphed into) and Guy ends the movie with a handful of CDs to show for his time in the studio. Ah physical media, how I miss thee… sometimes…
This is definitely one of those movies that is firmly lodged in my brain. Despite only having watched it twice, three times at most, I’ve had the soundtrack on rotation for ten years and the time I caught Glen Hansard himself in concert (at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire in 2015, natch) was legitimately one of the most memorable gig experiences I’ve ever been to. Everything from the setlist to the showmanship to the intimacy to the grandeur, it was just incredible. An unplugged encore starting with Say It To Me Now up on a balcony in the crowd through to Falling Slowly on piano? Woop woop!
But I digress… this is a film that is firmly time-stamped in my memory. I watched it on the very same night that I first properly met someone who ended up becoming a huge part of my life. Nearly ten years ago to the day, me and some friends - energised by both the movie and the hazy summer evening - trekked across town to a housewarming party. This was a decision which would inevitably change the very direction of my life, which is insane when you really sit down and think about it… and being able to pinpoint the origin of such a huge personal crossroads is kinda what Once is all about so it really does resonate.
And I think this rewatch really did resonate, because I now saw myself more as the cynical, pessimistic person Guy is at the start of the film – just trying to keep on keeping on and push himself out of his comfort zone. To achieve something special or worthwhile. Without getting too personal, I can be my own worst enemy and while 2008 mostly feels more like a lifetime ago, there are times when it feels like it was just yesterday and I blinked and went from then to now in a flash. And we all have these moments. Be it meeting someone influential, deciding to move house, to travel to a new country, to quit that job and take that risk; they can be scary or freeing or even traumatic but they’re an element of life that movies strive to replicate… and this one just does so by downplaying the weight of these moments rather than draw attention to them in an artificial manner.
John Carney has said that the title of the film is in reference to other talented musicians and artists that he knew, who always said ‘once I do this and once I do that, then I’ll pursue my passion’ etc, referring to the realities (and the safety nets) of life that can sometimes stop people from taking the plunge and chasing their dreams. I’ve definitely felt the same way and have constantly had that conversation inside my own head: that once I get these things sorted then these things lined up then I’ll do such and such and how in the end, time just keeps on moving regardless… so you have to act.
This film is about making that choice to act.
